This duplex is designed for two families of four and is composed of a single volume. Essentially, the building is comprised of two “L” shaped compositions, which are designed in such a way that they intertwine with each other in a vertical layout. This volume composition takes full advantage of the plot’s permitted design space while creating a very interesting shape which uses the voids and fills for the benefit of the respective uses of the individual spaces. The entire building is based on a pilotis where the duplex’s main entrance is located.
The two houses are organized in a similar way but with an opposite vertical layout, deployed on two levels, with the living spaces in one and bedrooms in the other. This volume entanglement creates alcoves and protrusions which, in combination with the use of large openings, take full advantage of the view and orientation.
Both the use of white plaster colour of the building and anthracite coloured metal structures, create a strong contrast, while projecting the building’s dynamism, which is also enhanced by the linear forms of its balconies. Finally, in selected parts of the building, passive shading systems have been designed to protect large glass surfaces from Greece’s intense sunshine during the summer months.
